About the role
We are looking for a Summer Trainee to join the Regulatory Affairs and Safety department of the New Nuclear business area. In this role, you will have an opportunity to be broadly involved in the development of Fortum’s New Nuclear initiatives by participating in and supporting the licensing efforts and assessments related to various light water reactor technologies in both Finland and Sweden. The position provides a possibility to learn more about nuclear regulatory requirements, ways of assessing compliance, and the overall development of a nuclear newbuild project.
As a Summer Trainee, New Nuclear Regulatory Affairs, your assignments may include:

Analysing nuclear regulatory requirements in Finland and Sweden and their impact on plant designs

Participating in developing ways to show compliance with the requirements and in assessing the acceptability of design solutions

Contributing to the development of requirement management processes and methods
The exact focus areas and assignments will be determined based on your background, experience, and interests. The position is located at Fortum’s headquarters in Espoo, Finland.
About you
To be successful in this role, the following should resonate with you:

At least three years of university studies in Engineering or Physics, e.g., Energy Technology, Nuclear Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering

Outgoing personality with good communication and language skills; English (written and oral) is a must

Swedish language skills are considered an advantage, but not required

Strong interpersonal characteristics and social skills; working with different stakeholders in a multicultural environment comes naturally

Questioning attitude and desire to learn; effective problem identification and solution skills, with a strong sense of responsibility

In this role, you get a first-row seat to participate and contribute to the development of a new nuclear project. You will learn about licensing of nuclear power plants in two countries, different reactor technologies, and work with many very experienced and professional colleagues.
