Tees REP Biomass Power Plant is a 100% biomass fuelled power station located at Tees Port on the River Tees in Northeast England operated and maintained by Fortum O&M (UK) Ltd. The installed capacity of the plant 299 MW gross, designed to operate with pellets, woodchip, or a mixture of both. The generated Power is exported to the Lackenby substation ~ 6 km away from the power plant site location. The main components are a Circulating fluidized bed boiler (CFB), Steam Turbine Generator (STG), Air Cooled Condenser (ACC), Fuel Handling System (FHS) with Continuous Ship Unloading system (CSU). Fortum O&M UK Ltd are responsible for the operations and maintenance of the plant on 24 hour / 365 days a year process, this to maximise plant availability and efficiency.

Job Title – Shift Maintenance Operator
Basis – Permanent position
Salary - Competitive salary, plus benefits package
Hours – 37.5 hours per week
The Shift Maintenance Operator will work as part of the Operations team and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the power plant systems including CFB Boiler, Steam Turbine Generator, BOP, and Fuel Handling System out in the field on a 24 hour shift system.
As part of a team, your duties will include plant and equipment process monitoring, changes to outside operations including the operation of local HMI control systems in order to optimise performance during start-up, shutdown, normal and abnormal operation within health, safety and environmental compliance.
You shall troubleshoot, inspect and work on a variety of plant equipment, support other disciplines within the Operations and Maintenance Departments to ensure the safe and efficient reliability of the plant.
Responsibilities will include routine tasks and testing of plant equipment out in the field. Contributing to the shift logbook with plant and process changes, ensure defects and planned works are reported within the CMMS.
You will ensure a diligent shift handover is carried out to ensure effective communication of the plant status to the oncoming shift.
You will assist with carrying out isolations and de-isolations of mechanical and process equipment under the supervision and instruction of the Shift Engineer ensuring safety from equipment is implemented.
You will be able to perform first line preventive and corrective maintenance on either Mechanical, Electrical and Automation systems, depending on trade background. Being totally flexible, you will be expected to carry out other duties within your competencies to ensure objectives are achieved.
The position reports to the Shift Engineer with support from the Engineering and Maintenance teams.
About you
Experience, qualifications & skills:
- Previous experience in heavy process industry or power plants particularly with biomass fuel handling will be advantageous.
- Apprentice served in a trade discipline is required.
- Minimum of three years' experience in trade background
- Operator Trade Technician is responsible for first line maintenance within an Operational setting.
- Working on a variety of field equipment including repairing of plant equipment, testing, inspecting, and troubleshooting
- Utilize the CMMS system to raise and plan work orders.
- Produce risk assessments and method statements for work tasks
- Previous experience in the operation of mobile plant equipment, fuel handling machines and forklift trucks.
- Have a positive attitude to work activities and shift teamwork.
- Have a willingness to operate flexibly over a wide range of work areas.
- Ability to think logically and solve problems effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to work without supervision.
- Experience of basic preventative maintenance of power plant equipment is preferred.
- Good awareness of EHS requirements and good understanding of the importance of high standard of housekeeping.
