Tees REP Biomass Power Plant is a 100% biomass fuelled power station located at Tees Port on the River Tees in Northeast England operated and maintained by Fortum O&M (UK) Ltd. The installed capacity of the plant 299 MW gross,  designed to operate with pellets, woodchip, or a mixture of both. The generated Power is exported to the Lackenby substation ~ 6 km away from the power plant site location. The main components are a Circulating fluidized bed boiler (CFB), Steam Turbine Generator (STG), Air Cooled Condenser (ACC), Fuel Handling System (FHS) with Continuous Ship Unloading system (CSU). Fortum O&M UK Ltd are responsible for the operations and maintenance of the plant on 24 hour / 365 days a year process, this to maximise plant availability and efficiency.

 

Job Title – Controls and Instrument (C&I) Technician

Basis – Permanent position

About the job

The C&I Technician is responsible for the repair and maintenance of various types of power plant C&I Equipment, PL:C and DCS and control systems associated within the power plant. You will be required to arrange all aspects of C&I maintenance on various types of power plant C&I Equipment, PLC and DCS control systems  covering boiler, turbine, fuel handling and balance of plant utilizing the CMMS system. Under the direction of the C&I Engineer you will perform preventive, corrective, and special maintenance on C&I systems, components to ensure the safety and efficiency of all electrical equipment associated with the plant. The role will require you to troubleshoot, inspect and work on a variety of plant C&I equipment. 

 

In this role you will support other disciplines within the Operations, Maintenance Departments to ensure the safe and efficient reliability of the plant.

You will ensure all work activities are conducted in compliance with the site Health, Safety and Environmental procedures and all legislative obligations. You will also have responsibilities for managing contractors on site ensuring a safe and efficient working environment. You will be required to respond to plant breakdowns both during working hours and outside working hours.

 

The position reports to the C&I Engineer.

 

Experience, qualifications & skills:

  • Ideally HNC qualified, apprentice served in a C&I discipline is required.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in C&I equipment is required.
  • Firsthand experience within power plant C&I Equipment and DCS, PLC control systems maintenance preferred.
  • Good knowledge of power plant equipment and technology; boiler, turbine, fuel handling and balance of plant preferred.
  • Good knowledge of working with Safe System of Work such as permit to work systems.
  • Knowledge of reading PIDs, general arrangement drawings, process diagrams and technical drawings.
  • Must be able to fault find and rectify problems on instrument loops and Control system related equipment.
