THESIS - O&M strategy execution in the power utilities industry

Perm/Temp:  Temporary

Sth Solna, SE

Background

Understanding how effectively a company executes its strategy is crucial for long term success. However, measuring performance against strategic goals is often a complex task, requiring the right mix of metrics, data collection and analysis.

Fortum Hydro Generation, particularly its O&M (Operation and Maintenance) unit, has been undergoing a transformation since taking the strategic decision about a year ago of insourcing all O&M functions and personnel from our outsourcing partners. This shift expanded the organization by approximately 300 employees, with several strategic goals and synergies identified to ensure the success of this transition. The business transfer was completed on 1st June, 2024, and the focus for the coming years is now on realizing these synergies and achieving the strategic goals.

Objective

This master thesis project will focus on exploring methodologies and frameworks to evaluate how well an organization is performing in relation to its strategic objectives. The research will include a comprehensive literature study, exploration of existing methodologies, identification of key performance indicators (KPIs) and providing recommendations for best practices in tracking strategy execution.

This project presents an excellent opportunity for a motivated student to bridge the gap between strategic planning and performance measurement, applying these concepts in a real case while delivering valuable insights to our business.
