We are looking for a Manager, Asset Optimization to join our Physical Trading team in Sweden. This is a key leadership role in a dynamic pan-Nordic environment, with a strong focus on value creation, operational excellence, and team development.

 

About the role

As Manager, Asset Optimization, you will lead a high-performing team of spot traders responsible for short-term optimization and day-ahead bidding for Fortum’s hydro and nuclear portfolio in Sweden. In this role, you will combine people leadership with commercial and operational responsibility, developing both team capabilities and ways of working while maximizing value creation from Fortum’s existing hydro and nuclear assets.

 

The team is also responsible for offering flexibility from Fortum’s hydro portfolio to the TSO capacity markets in Sweden. You will play a key role in executing the CCM strategy, in close collaboration with key internal stakeholders, with the ambition of achieving the leading optimization premium in the Nordics.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day asset optimization process, ensuring operational excellence and value creation.
  • Lead and ensure high-quality day-ahead bidding of Fortum’s Swedish hydro and nuclear portfolio.
  • Be a present leader for the team, fostering a positive working environment and enabling personal development, and driving high performance.
  • Ensure the right resourcing, capabilities, and performance of the spot and capacity trading desks.
  • Secure compliance with market rules, trading limits, water permits, and trading tactics.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of risk and compliance policy.
  • Collaborate closely with portfolio managers, intraday traders, and analysts to plan and execute trading tactics and overall strategy.

About you

  • Proven leadership experience in asset optimization, trading, or other relevant roles within the energy sector.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Deep understanding of physical power markets, asset optimization and the operational realities of short-term trading.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Commitment to compliance, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Proficiency in a Nordic language is an advantage as the role involves collaboration with stakeholders across the Nordic region.

The role includes occasional travel within the Nordics to fully leverage our Nordic portfolio.
