Thesis Worker, Process Analysis
Espoo, FI
About the role
We are seeking a Master’s thesis candidate to join the Process Analysis team within our Nuclear Generation business unit. The thesis work will focus on the further development of our Apros simulation tool. Apros is a dynamic process simulation software developed by Fortum and VTT since 1986. It is used, for example, in deterministic nuclear safety analyses, training simulator applications, and engineering simulations in both nuclear and non-nuclear contexts. To date, Apros has been delivered to nearly 40 countries.
Your task will be to explore potential applications and enabling technologies for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the process simulation workflow. You will also support the design and development of a pilot AI-enhanced application within the Apros software environment.
The work will consist of the following three main tasks:
- Identify phases in the process simulation workflow that could benefit from AI-driven enhancements
- Investigate available technical solutions and evaluate their suitability for practical use in simulation applications
- Participate in the development of a pilot AI-enhanced solution for the Apros simulation software
The Master’s thesis is planned to begin at the start of 2026, with an estimated duration of approximately six months.
