About the role

Engineering & Projects is responsible for implementing Fortum's nuclear power projects. We are experts working on demanding tasks at Loviisa and co-owned nuclear power plants, employing around 160 top professionals. We support external customers by delivering world-class nuclear power services globally. In addition we have strong focus in nuclear research and development and provide expertise to new nuclear and hydrogen projects.

 

We are looking for a Senior Specialist, Strength Analysis. In this role you will provide strength analysis engineering assignments mainly for the Loviisa nuclear power plant (NPP) investment projects, maintenance and ageing management. The Loviisa NPP lifetime is being extended until 2050, which means significant investment projects to ensure reliable and safe electricity production. Typical analysis types are for instance structural, modal, seismic and fatigue analyses of the piping and pressure equipment components. The software tools in our use are ANSYS, Abaqus, Rohr2, FPIPE, VVD, PVElite and MathCad.

 

Your position in the organization is in the Materials & Strength team of Engineering & Projects (E&P) business area, located in Espoo, Finland. Our team supports mainly Loviisa NPP expert needs in material engineering and strength analyses to ensure that technical evaluations and documentation (in-house or supplier delivered) fulfils the regulatory STUK YVL-guides, PED (Pressure Equipment Directive), selected standards and safety requirements.

Our team has a wide range of different competencies which are utilized in supporting safe and efficient operations of the Loviisa NPP, our co-owned nuclear units, external nuclear customers, the development of new nuclear and nuclear R&D activities in Fortum.

 

Your main focus areas are:

  • Execute strength analysis assignments related to Loviisa NPP operation, maintenance and ageing management
  • Review documents and engineering solutions done by other designers or organizations
  • Participate in R&D co-operation related to NPP ageing management both nationally and internationally to support competence development
  • Develop working methods in own field of engineering

 

Your role might also involve assignments for support Fortum nuclear fleet and external nuclear customers. More detailed focus areas and assignments are determined based on the applicant’s experience.

Your location will be at our headquarter in Keilalahti, Espoo. The job assignments occasionally require visits to the Loviisa NPP but also allow for partial remote work.

 

About you

  • Success in this role requires a higher university degree in the field of mechanical or structural engineering including studies in applied mechanics.
  • We are seeking a professional with a minimum of five years of relevant work experience relating to strength analyses.
  • We expect you to have experience from commercial FEM software and also from demanding analysis types such as fatigue and seismic analysis.
  • The knowledge of pressure equipment standards such as ASME BPVC and EN13445/13480 is an advantage.
  • The role demands fluent written presentation and reporting skills in English and working proficiency in Finnish is an advantage.
  • Your working style is independent, proactive, and solution-oriented. We expect you to possess excellent collaborative skills, both within your team and with various stakeholders.
