About the role
To support the control and the active steering of risks arising from Fortum’s businesses through the development and maintenance of the modelling framework. The role proactively supports senior decision-makers and strengthens strategic decision making, risk governance, risk processes and risk culture across the Group.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Take Group and Corporate Risk ownership of modelling responsibilities across defined portfolios and business areas, supporting risk assessments to P&L and balance sheet impact in line with the Risk Appetite Statement.
- Conceptual leadership as well as development and maintenance of Fortum’s risk modelling framework. Defining modelling standards, governance frameworks, validation methodologies ensuring methodological soundness and transparency.
- Provide senior decision support through recurring and ad-hoc modelling and analyses (e.g. exposures, stress and scenario analysis, hedge effectiveness, credit and collateral assessments).
- Be a recognised as a modelling expert and advisor, modelling complex risk topics into clear output for senior stakeholders.
- Coordinate cross-functional initiatives and sub-streams related to modelling management and development, collaborating closely with Business Areas, Treasury, Finance and other Risk teams.
Scope and decision authority
The role operates with a Group-wide perspective and is accountable for the quality, relevance and consistency of risk modelling and the modelling framework. The role independently identifies development needs and drives enhancements to risk modelling and risk and possesses the ability to support input selection as well as connecting input with output across both tactical and strategic horizons.
About you
- Master’s degree in Economics, Engineering, Finance, Mathematics or a related field.
- You have extensive knowledge, preferably from the energy business and/or of commodity or financial markets, derivatives, hedging strategies and P&L attribution.
- You possess a comprehensive understanding of risk modelling methodologies, including scenario analysis, stress testing, sensitivity analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, and distribution-based modelling.
- You can translate theoretical concepts into robust analytical tools that can be audited and maintained. You are proficient in Python, SQL, and Git, and have experience working with Databricks or similar cloud-based platforms and data visualisation tools.
- You are recognised for strong logical reasoning abilities in conducting quantitative analyses, producing comprehensive reports, and providing effective support within your business environment.
- You have strong English proficiency and can clearly present complex analyses to senior executives both verbally and in writing. Other Nordic languages are considered a clear advantage.
