About the role
We are looking for Senior Engineers. Your position in the organization is in the Nuclear Safety team of Engineering & Projects (E&P) business area, located in Espoo, Finland. The Nuclear Safety team has a wide range of different competencies which are utilized in supporting safe and efficient operations of our nuclear units, external nuclear customers, and the development of new nuclear and nuclear R&D activities in Fortum. Your responsibilities may include the following areas determined based on your experience:
- Nuclear newbuild projects: evaluation of plant concepts, dialogue with regulators and writing licensing documentation
- External sales – supporting utilities in new build projects
About you
To succeed and thrive in this role:
- We expect you to have a master’s degree or relevant university level degree e.g. in nuclear engineering, energy technology, power plant engineering or physics
- You are familiar with state-of-the-art nuclear power plant technologies including SMRs as well as with Finnish and international licensing requirements
- You have several years’ nuclear safety related experience in international projects
- Readiness to stay limited periods abroad would be an advantage
- You have good communication and networking skills and working with customers and in project teams motivates you
- You have fluent oral and written communication skills in English. All other language skills are highly appreciated!
As Senior Nuclear Safety Engineer you will work closely together with our other nuclear experts and with our external partners in creating winning solutions for the needs of our customers both in Finland and abroad. The type of the projects and your role will depend on your previous experience and include Advisory and tasks related e.g. to:
- safety assessment of various plant designs, systems and equipment
- functional safety design
- determination of technical requirements
- licensing planning and preparation of licensing documentation

The Engineering & Projects is responsible for implementing Fortum's nuclear projects. We are technology experts working on demanding tasks related to plant design, operations and maintenance at our own and co-owned nuclear power plants, employing around 170 top professionals. We support external customers by delivering world-class nuclear power services globally. In addition we have strong focus in nuclear research and development and provide expertise to new nuclear and hydrogen projects.
