This position is based in our office in Espoo or Solna.
About the role
As the O&M Development Manager, you will play a critical role in shaping and executing the operations and maintenance (O&M) strategy for Fortum's future renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and hybrid projects. You will ensure operational excellence, cost-efficiency, and alignment with the company’s strategic objectives.
This position reports to the Head of Asset Management and works closely with cross-functional teams, including project development, engineering, procurement, and external stakeholders.
In the role as O&M Development Manager, the following will be part of your key responsibilities:
Strategic Planning and Development:
• Develop and implement long-term O&M strategies for wind, solar, BESS, and hybrid assets to align with Fortum’s growth and sustainability goals.
• Incorporate best practices, emerging technologies, and innovative O&M models to optimize performance and cost-efficiency.
• Define KPIs for O&M activities, focusing on uptime, cost efficiency, and asset lifetime.
• Analyze O&M services to identify opportunities for in-house capabilities versus outsourcing.
Operational Excellence:
• Manage O&M frameworks for new projects, ensuring seamless transitions from construction to operations.
• Oversee asset management plans, maintenance schedules, and performance monitoring systems.
• Establish scalable spare parts management strategies and robust supply chain relationships.
• Drive the adoption of digital solutions like predictive maintenance, drone inspections, and advanced analytics for real-time monitoring.
Project Collaboration and Leadership:
• Serve as the primary O&M interface during project engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
• Coordinate with engineering teams to establish design standards that minimize O&M complexity and costs.
• Lead the handover process from construction teams to O&M teams, ensuring all documentation, warranties, and training are complete.
Risk Management and Compliance:
• Identify and mitigate O&M risks, including equipment failures, supply chain disruptions, and regulatory compliance challenges.
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) standards across all operational and future sites.
Team Building and Leadership:
• Coordinate with O&M professionals, including engineers, technicians, and analysts, to support Fortum’s growing renewable portfolio.
• Develop training programs to enhance team capabilities in advanced O&M practices and emerging technologies.
Stakeholder Engagement:
• Collaborate with external contractors, OEMs, and service providers to negotiate O&M contracts and ensure SLA adherence.
• Work with the commercialization and strategy team to budget and forecast O&M expenses and evaluate cost-saving opportunities.
• Engage with industry forums and consortia to represent Fortum and stay updated on O&M trends and innovations.
About you
To be successful in the role of O&M Development Manager, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
• Additional certifications in O&M, asset management, strategy, or renewable energy (e.g., IAM) are an advantage.
• Several years of experience in O&M, consultancy, asset management, strategy, or other relevant roles.
• Track record of developing and implementing O&M strategies for large-scale renewable projects is highly beneficial.
• Deep understanding of O&M best practices.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; additional language skills, especially Finnish or Swedish, are highly valued

• Analytical mindset with the ability to use data for decision-making and performance optimization.
• Ability to navigate independently with minimal supervision
• Proven experience with wind, solar, BESS, grid, and/or hybrid systems is preferred.
