Lead Analyst, Strategic Market Intelligence

We are looking for a Lead Analyst focusing on understanding and shaping the Nordic energy transition to join our Strategic Market Intelligence team at Fortum.

 

You will be joining a distinguished team of energy market analysts, focusing especially on the development of the energy system in the strategic time horizon. Our team serves a wide range of stakeholders, including strategy, capital allocation and top management, as well as customers and sales.


About the role
The essence of our work is to understand the current and future energy landscape, evolving societal and customer needs and the broader operating environment in both qualitative and quantitative terms.

 

As Lead Analyst, you will be a driving force in shaping our long-term outlook of the Nordic and European energy system, including the key fundamental drivers, long-term scenarios and price view. In addition to responsibility on the overall outlook, you will be the senior expert on selected domain(s) of the energy system, for example renewable energy, hydrogen, and other energy-intensive industries. 

 
The daily work contains:  

  • Leading and developing Fortum’s long-term view on the energy system development and the broader operating environment   
  • Following and analysing current phenomena and trends  
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Planning and executing fundamental modelling of energy systems and/or financial modelling of energy-intensive industries’ needs 
     

All of this is an integral part of our strategy work, scenario analysis and forecasting. The Strategic Market Intelligence team is highly visible and influential within Fortum, which means there is a high standard and trust in the quality of our analysis and recommendations. The location of this role can be in either Espoo, Finland or Solna, Sweden.

 

About you  
You are proactive and have passion to make sense of the changing energy landscape and the society around us. You rather find out than assume, and you have the courage to craft views in a complex and uncertain field. You have a background in economics or technology with a keen interest in society, or a societal background with economic and technical interests. You are a leading expert in your field in the Nordics.  

 
We expect you to have:  

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant working experience with the energy industry, combining consultancy and qualitative and/or quantitative analysis 
  • Leading expertise in key energy domains, such as renewable energy and hydrogen  
  • Strong communication skills to present complex content simply and effectively to different audiences, including top executives
  • Proven project management skills
  • Familiarity with quantitative analysis and forecasting – experience with fundamental energy market models (such as BID3, EMPS or PLEXOS) will be considered a benefit
  • Fluency and confidence in English
  • Fluency in Finnish and/or Swedish is considered an major asset, as it can greatly support success in this role
  • Master’s level degree in Economics, Science and Engineering, Social Sciences or equivalent

What to expect from the recruitment process?

We start contacting suitable candidates already during the application period. The recruitment process will include two rounds of interviews with different participants. We will utilize a short digital assessment in the process. As a final step, the finalist(s) will have a last discussion and reference check.
