About the role
In this role you will control and actively steer financial risks arising from Fortum’s businesses as well as develop, maintain and embed robust financial risk frameworks covering market, credit, liquidity and financing risks. You will proactively support senior decision-makers and strengthen financial risk, governance, processes and culture across the Group.
Key responsibilities might include but not be limited to
- Take Group and Corporate Risk ownership of financial risk responsibilities across defined portfolios and business areas, linking risk assessments to P&L and balance sheet impact in line with the Risk Appetite Statement.
- Manage development and maintenance of Fortum’s financial risk frameworks, including risk instructions, hedging guidelines, mandates and interfaces with Business Units and Treasury.
- Lead financial risk internal control processes and ensure high-quality, audit-ready evidence, effective remediation of findings and continuous process improvement.
- Provide senior decision support through recurring and ad-hoc analyses (e.g. exposures, stress and scenario analysis, hedge effectiveness, credit and collateral assessments).
- Take ownership of group steering for, and support development of, Group Risk appetite Statement applications in the business, ensuring methodological soundness and transparency.
- Be a recognized financial risk expert and advisor, simplifying complex risk topics into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- Coordinate cross-functional initiatives and sub-streams related to financial risk development, collaborating closely with Business Areas, Treasury, Finance and other Risk teams.
About you
We think that you have extensive experience from financial or commodity risk management, trading, business controlling or a similar role close to financial markets. As foundation, you have a master’s degree in economics, engineering, finance, mathematics or a related field.
In order to be successful, you have throughout your career gained extensive knowledge of:
- the energy business
- commodity or financial markets, derivatives
- hedging strategies
- PnL attribution
You possess comprehensive understanding of financial risk methodologies as well as their interplay with profit and loss statements and the balance sheet, including: Market risk, Credit risk and Liquidity risk.
You have practical experience working with internal regulation relating to governance, policy, mandates, limits, and internal controls.
You are recognized for strong logical reasoning abilities in conducting qualitative analyses, producing comprehensive reports, and providing effective support within your business environment. We believe you have strong English proficiency and can clearly present complex analyses to senior executives both verbally and in writing.

This position can either be based in one of our offices in Solna, Sweden or Espoo, Helsinki.
