Business Development Manager, Flexibility

Perm/Temp:  Regular

Espoo, FI

Join us to shape the future of energy systems by driving commercially viable flexibility solutions at the intersection of markets, strategy, and execution.

About the role
As a Business Development Manager in the Flexibility Growth -team, you will drive important initiatives that develop and scale our business towards our customers and the physical electricity markets.

In this role, you will in particular:

  • Coordinate and drive complex, cross-functional initiatives involving multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders and contribute to leadership level communication
  • Support the execution of Fortum’s Flexibility strategy through aligning a total portfolio of all Flexibility cases
  • Identify synergies and new business opportunities between parallel initiatives and contribute with structured analyses to support decision-making

You will work with business cases ranging from consumer solutions to large storage assets or energy-intensive industries. Your work is based on understanding how different puzzle pieces fit together to form a competitive solution that is repeatable and operatively manageable. While many of the cases are in the forefront of energy system development, they are not R&D anymore, but managed by fully commercial criteria. Thus, you also need the skills to calculate and tell the story around the financials and the logic of each case.

The role evolves as projects progress, but also through own initiative, which you are expected to take. Your contributions will directly support Fortum's mission to drive and accelerate the flexibility agenda. By succeeding in this together with the team, you will be enabling the decarbonization and electrification of the energy system as well as adjacent industries.

The position is permanent and located in Espoo, Finland.

  • Deep, hands-on understanding of energy systems and electricity and/or commodity markets, including how commercial solutions interact with the physical system
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in business development, management consulting, or similar roles
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyse complex system- and market-driven topics, use quantitative analysis, and think creatively
  • Experience in new business development
  • Strong problem-solving skills, combining quantitative analysis and the ability to think creatively
  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Customer- and growth mindset, with the ability to connect individual initiatives to broader business objectives
  • Relevant academic degree
  • Finnish language skills are an advantage, due to stakeholder communication
