Are you interested in EU policy, energy, climate, and digitalisation? We are offering an internship in our Brussels office where you will gain hands-on experience of EU decision-making and public affairs work in an international environment.
About the role
During this internship, you will be part of Fortum’s Corporate Public Affairs team in Brussels. The team leads and coordinates Fortum’s advocacy work at EU level, including climate policy, industrial policy, digital policy, and regulatory topics relevant to the energy sector.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the daily work of Fortum’s EU affairs team in Brussels
- Monitoring EU policy developments relevant to Fortum
- Preparing materials for meetings and participating in events related to EU decision-making
- Contributing to advocacy activities through policy analysis and stakeholder insights
- Supporting work related to digitalisation, AI, and data centre-related EU policies
- Analysing policy developments, stakeholders, and Member State positions
- Assisting in the development of Fortum’s positions on how digital technologies enable a competitive and sustainable energy system
The internship is planned for 4 months between September and December 2026. An earlier start in mid-August may be possible to support Fortum’s participation in external events.
About you
You have a genuine interest in EU affairs and policy development, particularly within energy, climate, or digitalisation. You enjoy working with complex topics, analysing developments, and turning insights into clear and structured outputs.
You bring a relevant academic background and are motivated to develop your understanding of how policy and business interact in an international environment. You are comfortable collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders, while also taking ownership of your own tasks and contributing proactively to the team’s work.
We expect you to have:
- A recent degree in political science, social sciences, economics, energy, or a related field
- A strong interest in EU affairs and politics
- Good analytical skills and an interest in policy development
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
- Knowledge in Finnish and/or Swedish is considered an asset.
